The Stingray 1.3 release offers improvements that help artists produce more realistic visuals by adding three new shader types and support for NVIDIA® APEX™ clothing. It also improves workflows for creating particles, the shader environment, and better Asset Browser navigation.

Stingray 1.3 adds three new editable shader graphs that will help users make more realistic materials and adds editable properties so users can further refine the shaders for their specific scene. The Clear Coat shader is designed to give the look of a vehicular paint job through a double-layer specular shader; the Cloth shader gives cloth-like materials more near realistic light falloff and edge fuzz; and the Fur shader helps make animal fur appear more realistic and adds editable properties for length, color, and directionality.Simpler particle work flow
The Stingray Shader Graph now supports the particle system, creating a much more familiar and artist friendly way of adding advanced particle effects to a scene. Users can create particle effects by dragging, dropping, and editing shader graphs instead of manual coding or using text files.Entity sharing for shader environment
In Stingray, Entities are a higher order analogue to Units, and are much more flexible. The shading environment Entity contains information for creating the lighting and post-processing effects of the scene. While Stingray 1.2 added support for animating the shading environment in the Story animation tool by using Entities, Stingray 1.3 enables the sharing and re-use of those Entities across levels or projects. This helps level designers save time by not having to re-create the same shading environment over and over. It also helps achieve better visual consistency across scenes and projects.
NVIDIA APEX clothing support
Stingray 1.3 adds support for NVIDIA APEX clothing. Developers using the APEX clothing plugin for 3ds Max, Maya, or Maya LT can import their clothing data into Stingray, to provide high quality cloth simulation in their scene.Texture streaming
Stingray 1.3 adds support for streaming textures. This helps reduce the loading times for scenes in Stingray by not loading every texture into memory when the scene first loads. Instead, Stingray selectively loads textures based on the distance to the scene camera and then loads higher resolution textures later, when required.Asset Browser improvements
Stingray 1.3 improves work flows to help make navigating project files in the asset browser faster and more intuitive. The right-click context menu is no longer dependent on a selected target asset, making it easier to access. Users can also use the Backspace key to navigate backwards through their folder library, helping to make navigation faster.
